Possibility

A thousand lifetimes led

by the time I was eighteen.

Old age had set in, deep, in my eyes

blue green like the ancient seas.

We had known the damages done, by acidity, by volcanic ash.

With time, eons for the sea, years for me, we evolved so that

Life could exist for us. Tiny microorganisms borne in hot flumes

in the deepest crevice on earth, morphing

into the largest mammal that ever lived –

the blue whale-

thousands upon thousands of pounds, hundreds of feet long

feeding, moving, breeding, swaying, living in the great pressure

of salted hydrogen and oxygen.

I and the sea serve as monuments of possibility.
